Greenhouse Gas Services, LLC, a GE AES Venture

Greenhouse Gas Services originates, invests in and develops a variety of greenhouse gas reduction projects that generate carbon offsets. One carbon offset is equal to one metric ton of greenhouse gases avoided, destroyed or otherwise prevented from being emitted into the atmosphere through “business as usual” practices. Projects in the Greenhouse Gas Services portfolio include those that capture and destroy methane from landfill gas, agricultural waste and coal mine emissions.

Environmental Benefit

One of Greenhouse Gas Services' current landfill gas projects is designed to generate approximately 75,000 metric tons of CO2e credits per year, or the amount of CO2 emitted in generating electricity for over 11,000 homes on the US grid.

One of Greenhouse Gas Services' current animal manure management projects is designed to generate approximately 30,000 metric tons of CO2e credits per year, or the amount of CO2 emitted in generating electricity for over 4,400 homes on the US grid.

Operating Benefit

Customers that purchase carbon offsets from Greenhouse Gas Services achieve real and measurable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions versus “business as usual” practices. Offsets can be a fast and lower cost complement to a customer's internal emission reduction efforts.

The environmental challenge

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is central to addressing the world’s climate challenge. Greenhouse Gas Services is committed to investing in greenhouse gas emissions reduction projects that make credible offsets available to customers.

GE’s innovative solution

Greenhouse Gas Services (GHGS), a venture between GE Energy Financial Services and the AES Corporation, originates, invests in and develops a variety of greenhouse gas reduction projects that generate carbon offsets. GHGS sells these offsets to commercial, industrial and utility customers that want to apply offsets toward internal emissions reduction targets. One carbon offset is equal to one metric ton carbon dioxide-equivalent avoided, destroyed or otherwise prevented from being emitted into the atmosphere through “business as usual” practices. Projects in the Greenhouse Gas Services current portfolio include those that capture and destroy methane from landfill gas, agricultural waste and coal mine emissions. Environmental impact

The Greenhouse Gas Services’ Standard of Practice ensures the scientific and environmental integrity of each carbon offset generated. The Standard was developed in consultation with well-established non-governmental organizations and engineering firms to maximize its compatibility with other recognized carbon offset standards. The Greenhouse Gas Services' Standard guarantees that each carbon offset definitively results in permanent physical reductions in greenhouse gases, is independently verified by a third party, and is additional to any regulatory requirements or common industry practices. The Standard is made fully available to the public at www.ghgs.com to ensure complete transparency.

Greenhouse Gas Services can develop projects that are also certified under the Climate Action Reserve (CAR) and Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS), both leading standards in the U.S. voluntary market.

Cutting costs

Greenhouse Gas Services credits can be a fast and lower cost complement to a customer's internal emission reduction efforts.
