GenGard Cooling Water Solution
GenGard™ is an advanced and effective water treatment technology for open recirculating cooling systems. GenGard treatment programs can be applied across the entire pH spectrum from neutral to alkaline and ensure uncompromising results even under the most stressful conditions. Unlike conventional treatments, GenGard provides the freedom to effectively respond to microbial upsets without a loss of deposition or corrosion control.
Environmental Benefit
GE GenGard cooling water treatment solutions containing Continuum AEC are designed to provide steel corrosion protection with reduced phosphate discharge versus traditional phosphonate-based treatment programs. Phosphate concentrations in a typical cooling tower water can be 4 ppm lower with Continuum AEC, when used according to application guidelines, than with a traditional phosphonate-based treatment program, which would enable a small cooling tower with a water discharge rate of 40 gpm to avoid the annual discharge of 200 lbs of phosphorus, equivalent to the annual residential phosphorous discharge of over 120 people in the U.S.
Operating Benefit
GE GenGard cooling water treatment solutions containing Continuum AEC can prevent calcium carbonate deposition in cooling systems more effectively than traditional phosphonate-based treatments, allowing cooling tower operators to flush their systems less frequently, saving water and associated costs. For example, in the case of a particular food processor plant in the Midwest, U.S., a solution containing Continuum AEC is designed to decrease water use from 107 million gal/year to 74 million gal/year and decrease water discharge from 74 million gal/year to 37 million gal/year; these reductions could result in annual cost savings of more than $215,000 based on local municipal costs for water supply and discharge.
