ENERGY STAR® qualified Refrigerators
GE ENERGY STAR® qualified refrigerators are designed to be more energy efficient than non-ENERGY STAR models.
Environmental Benefit
All of the ENERGY STAR® qualified GE refrigerators sold in 2007 were designed to avoid the emissions of more than 944,000 metric tons of CO2 over the course of their lifetimes compared to an equal number of conventional refrigerators. This is equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions of more than 180,000 cars on U.S. roads.
Operating Benefit
ENERGY STAR qualified GE refrigerators are 20 percent more energy efficient than refrigerators that are not ENERGY STAR qualified and 40 percent more energy efficient than conventional refrigerators sold in 2001.
The environmental challenge
ENERGY STAR qualified GE refrigerators are designed to avoid the emissions of more than 944,000 metric tons of CO2 over the course of their lifetimes compared to an equal number of conventional refrigerators.
GE's innovative solution
This new refrigerator keeps food at its best with the following features:
» Circulates air in the fresh food compartment separately from freezer air, preventing the transfer of food odors.
» Maintains humidity to help preserve fresh fruits, vegetables, and other foods that require more moisture.
» Defrosts only when needed based on the numbers of times that the refrigerator doors are opened instead of relying on a timer.
» Eliminates the transfer of moisture into the freezer compartment by utilizing dual evaporators.
Environmental impact
A single ENERGY STAR qualified GE refrigerator is designed to avoid the emissions of more than 2,200 lbs of CO2 over the course of its lifetime compared to a conventional refrigerator over the same 13-year period. This is equivalent to the CO2 absorbed in one year by 1/4 acre of trees in a Southeastern U.S. forest.
