Exploring cleaner energy investments worldwide

With more than $4 billion already invested in renewable energy projects and companies, GE Energy Financial Services remains one of the world's top renewable energy investors. GE Energy Financial Services has made equity and debt investments both in and outside the United States, across wind, solar, biomass, hydro and geothermal power. Among our 2008 investments:

  • Over 1,000 megawatts of wind energy projects across the United States, including Texas, Wisconsin, Illinois, New York and along the North Dakota-South Dakota border. Our first wind investment in the Dakotas is with ACCIONA Energy.

  • Four solar power projects funded in California totaling approximately 6.5 megawatts, including a 1.17-megawatt installation on the roof of HP's printing technology and research development facility in San Diego. In 2008, EFS also provided loans to three large solar photovoltaic projects in Spain totaling 31.5 megawatts.

  • A 32 percent stake in Fotowatio, one of Spain's largest and most successful solar power project developers.

  • Asia-Pacific's first renewable energy private trust with EPURON, a Conergy subsidiary, to spur growth and investments in wind, solar, small hydroelectric, biogas and biomass power generation throughout the region. The trust plans to build a renewable energy portfolio of some 200 megawatts through potential investments totaling $250 million.

  • Expansion of our venture capital investments in seven companies pursuing game-changing technologies, from high-efficiency wind turbine blades to lower-cost solar installations for commercial rooftops.
