Partnering with Delta Faucet Company to identify wasted resources

GE’s “treasure hunt” process for reducing and managing our on-site resource consumption is inspiring other companies to audit their consumption levels too. Masco, the parent company of Delta Faucet Company, has developed Process EcovaluationSM as a valuable tool to identify wasted resources and drive water and energy reductions at its divisions. Process Ecovaluation — which uses Lean principals and tools — is a logical way for Delta Faucet Company to apply water and energy conservation techniques to its manufacturing facilities, where continuous improvement is part of the culture.

In 2008, GE partnered with Delta Faucet Company to conduct Ecovaluation events at its domestic manufacturing facilities and its headquarters in Indianapolis. Teams focused on uncovering different types of water, energy and other resource savings with the goal to improve operations, reduce costs and begin a continuous cycle of incremental change throughout the organization.

“By teaming with GE, we were able to learn new techniques to identify energy consumption,” said Donny DeMarie, Masco Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. “We have now continued to utilize this process at other divisions to truly make an impact on our greenhouse gas emissions.”

Potential reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from the Process Ecovaluation events totaled approximately 10,000 metric tons from all four Delta Faucet Company facilities. Potential water savings totaled 9.4 million gallons per year. By adapting GE’s “treasure hunt” process to its own operations, Delta Faucet Company is improving both its operational and environmental efficiencies — and making it more competitive in the marketplace.
